    麻烦给点想象力,童子鸡成了“还没有性生活的鸡”?

    又是一个大早,翻开报纸,国内一则报道“迎奥运  中菜西译遇尴尬”颇引人阅读,读来引人喷饭,也让人回味和思考,英语强人们,过来这里看哈,到底该咋翻译,麻烦给点想象力!

       为迎接2008年奥运会,《北京市餐饮业菜单英文译法》已经完成讨论稿,明年将出台标准,届时北京市餐饮饭店中的数千种菜、酒,都将有统一规范的“英文名”。《北京市餐饮业菜单英文译法》在网上公布(网址:http;//www.bjenglish.com.cn/bbs),开始征求市民意见。目前公布的讨论稿是按照菜的原料、做法翻译的。比方说宫保鸡丁,翻译完了就是“花生、辣椒、葱炒鸡肉”;过桥米线成了“加鸡肉的鸡汤粉丝”……这事听着就那么让人充满联想,多么伟大的一项工程啊。我们与时俱进的中国,实在表现出了非凡的创造力。为什么要如此呢?媒体报道,为了让老外在中国吃饭点菜没麻烦。

      在山东,近年来随着来青外国游客的增多,岛城很多酒店都推出了外语菜单,但由于地域及饮食文化的差别,大多菜名翻译得不够规范,“直译”菜名吓跑客人。外语菜单为的就是方便外国客人,但大多数情况下效果都不理想,热河路一酒店的名菜“红烧狮子头”就把客人给吓走了。原来这道菜被翻译成了“烧红了的狮子头”,这些菜在咱国内是妇孺皆知,但外国人以为是要吃狮子的头,谁还敢张口呀?

      某酒店使用的外语菜单上,非常吉利的一道菜“四喜丸子”,翻译成英文是“Four glad meatballs”(四个高兴的肉团),“猴魁茶”翻译出来是“Number one monkey-tea”(第一只猴子茶),其他诸如“庐山云雾”、“君山银针”翻译得更是不知所云。令人哭笑不得的是,“麻婆豆腐”竟成了“满脸雀斑的女人制作的豆腐”,“童子鸡”成了“还没有性生活的鸡”……

      一个名为“首都经济报道”的BLOG里面,博主贴出了一篇调侃的文章:《老潘胡喷:没有性生活的鸡》中说,童子鸡成了“还没有性生活的鸡”,这还不够准确,应该是还没有性生活的公鸡,要是母鸡的话应该是处女鸡了。靠着我们这些可怜的想象力,无论如何也设想不出来这童子鸡怎么能够确切而信达雅地有其英文名称。
